New South Wales police charge children’s author with online grooming

Police in New South Wales have charged a children’s author over the alleged online children’s haircutsunder Strike Force Trawler.
Detectives from the National Crime Squad’s Sex Offenses Unit launched an investigation in early May after receiving an interstate report that a children’s author had inappropriately communicated with a child online.
During the investigation, the man sent inappropriate photos and videos to someone he believed to be a 13-year-old girl.
Following an investigation, police executed a search warrant at a home in Old Guildford at 8am on Friday.
Detectives detained a 41-year-old man and seized several electronic devices.
The man was taken to the Fairfield Police Department where he was charged with using a carriage to procure a child under 16 for sex and using a carriage to procure a child under 16 for sexual activity.
Detectives say the man used his position as a children’s author to inappropriately engage with children online.
He was refused bail and appeared in Fairfield Local Court on Friday.
Strike Force Trawler is an ongoing investigation by the Child Internet Exploitation Unit (CEIU) of the Sex Crimes Unit into Internet-assisted child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Investigations are ongoing.
