New Russian sanctions target John Howard and Tony Abbott

Prominent Australians, including former prime ministers Tony Abbott and John Howard, have been targeted in a new wave of Russian sanctions over their support for Ukraine.
They were among a list of 37 leading Australians released by the Russian Foreign Ministry to be formally sanctioned, meaning the border is closed to them.
Others on the list include senior military officers, businessmen, judges, former diplomats and academics.
An accompanying statement from the ministry accused the banned individuals of helping to guide the Australian government’s “Russophobic policies” and plotting an “anti-Russian agenda”.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine more than two years ago, relations between Canberra and Moscow have reached a new low.
“In response to politically motivated sanctions against Russian individuals and organizations imposed by the Australian government as part of the West’s collective Russophobic campaign, entry to our country has been closed indefinitely to a further 27 Australians, including former politicians, Australian company executives, university teachers, journalists and members of the public”, the message says.
