Police have launched a homicide investigation after the bodies of a man and a woman were found in a house in Staffordshire.

Officers were called at around 12.30pm on Tuesday after paramedics attended the Cannock address.

Two people were found dead at the property on Alpine Drive in Hednesford.

Staffordshire Police said formal identification was pending but believed the victims to be Lauren Evans, 22, from Bridgend, South Wales, and Daniel Duffield, 24, from Cannock.

The force added that it had referred the incident to the Independent Policing Conduct Office due to recent police contact and that a team of specially trained officers was continuing to support the families involved.

A number of police officers were in the area on Wednesday making inquiries.

Det Sgt Nicky Addison, from the force’s Major Investigations Unit, said: “My thoughts are very much with the families at the moment.

“I know this news has understandably shaken the local community. I would like to reassure everyone that we have a dedicated team of officers working long hours to fully investigate what happened and support the families of those affected.

“We fully understand that many people want to know more about what happened, but we would like to reiterate that speculation is not helpful to the families at this distressing time.”
