Police said initial investigations suggest the Holden Commodore was traveling along William Boulevard in Pimpama when it entered a roundabout before crashing into a retaining wall shortly before 1am today.
A 19-year-old passenger was rushed to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.
A 20-year-old female passenger was also transported to Gold Coast University Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.
The driver, an 18-year-old man, was taken to hospital for mandatory checks and is assisting police with their enquiries.
Two other passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were examined by paramedics.
Zoe Hackett from the Queensland Ambulance Service said four of the occupants were in a stable condition.
“When you have five young people involved in a crash and all their families live nearby, it’s a very chaotic scene, a very emotional scene as you can imagine,” she said.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information, including a recording of the vehicle, is urged to contact police.
