[ad_1]

The nominations for TV Week’s 64th Logie Awards have been announced and it’s great news for Channel Seven.

Both Larry Emdur and Sonja Kruger are shortlisted for the coveted Gold Logie Award and the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.

After more than three decades on Australian television, including The Price is Right, Emdur is finally up for the top prize for the first time.

Krueger, the reigning Gold Logie winner, was selected for national television’s highest award for the third year in a row. She has been nominated to host Dancing With The Stars, The Voice Australia and Big Brother.

Last year, she won the Golden Logie at a glittering ceremony in Sydney.

7NEWS has been nominated twice in the category of “Best News Coverage or Reporting with the Public” for the team’s coverage of the Israel-Hamas conflict and Chris Reason’s series of investigative reports on the sexual misconduct of Bishop of Broome.

Michael Usher was also nominated for a Silver Logie for Best News or Public Affairs Anchor for his tireless work on 7NEWS and 7NEWS Spotlight.

Home and Away star Tristan Gorey has been nominated for the prestigious Graham Kennedy Award for Most Popular New Talent, while Rob Collins has been nominated twice for best lead actor in a drama for Seven’s drama RFDS, as well as for his role in Total Control on ABC.

Half of the Best Entertainment Program nominations were scooped up by the Seven Network, including for Australian Idol, Dancing with the Stars and The Voice Australia.

Seven’s record-breaking coverage of last year’s Women’s World Cup was nominated for best sports coverage, along with the network’s broadcast of the AFL finals series.

The Matildas’ performance at the tournament captivated the nation, with more than 11 million Australians watching Seven’s telecast of the semi-final loss to England.

Australia’s stunning win against France in 15 penalties was watched by more than 7 million, taking the tournament’s total audience to 18.6 million Australians – a television record.

Seven is also nominated for Best Miniseries or TV Movie for its work on The Claremont Murders, a retelling of the dark Perth story of serial killer Bradley Robert Edwards.

The loggias underwent a dramatic change this year, overhauling its categories. Previously, the awards were split into two streams, the publicly voted “popular” categories and the industry voted “outstanding” gongs.

While three awards – Gold Logie, Most Popular Presenter and Most Popular New Talent – are left for the public to decide, the remaining categories have been merged to be renamed ‘best’.

This year, Steve Irwin’s 20-year-old son, Robert, is nominated for the Golden Log, opposite comedian Andy Lee and actress Asher Keddy.

TV presenter and comedian Julia Morris and broadcaster Tony Armstrong are also nominated.

Sam Pang will once again host the show after his successful run last year, which saw him roast a celebrity list including Andy Lee, Karl Stefanovic, David Koch and Sam Neill.

Voting starts from 18:00 AEST tonight and runs until Saturday 17 August at 19:00 AEST for the top categories and until Sunday 18 August at 19:30 for the most popular categories. You can vote here.

The logies will be broadcast on Channel 7 on August 18.
