1. Keep Alexa away from your toilet
Placing the Echo near your toilet is, simply put, gross. Think of all the germs that linger around that area—even in super clean bathrooms. If it is necessary you have an Echo device in your bathroom (and we see the appeal), try to place it as far away from the toilet as possible.
If you can, mount it on a wall with sticky tape or a nail. Just make sure it’s securely attached so it doesn’t fall out, and be sure to place it near an outlet so you can plug it in. Also, keep it out of the bathtub. You wouldn’t want to fry your Echo…or anything else.
2. Avoid placing Alexa near a sink
If you’re trying to silence the sounds of Alexa’s voice, by all means put your precious Echo next to a sink. If you want to keep it intact, never place it near water.
You don’t want to risk your kitchen water sprayer going haywire and soaking your Echo device, or a tall device being tossed in the sink. Instead, place it on another counter, such as a kitchen island, or tuck it in a corner where it’s further away from splashes of spaghetti sauce and splashes of water. It will stay cleaner and may sound better.

3. Don’t put Alexa next to your windows
Keep your Echo away from any windows in your home. Location can potentially give anyone on the outside access to your Echo, and that can give access to your other smart home devices. For example, if your car is connected to your smart speaker, someone might succeed unlock and run it.
4. Alexa should not go under your TV
How many ads are out there that say “Alexa, play…” and activate your echo? Or if the TV says something that sounds a lot like “Alexa,” guess what will be activated.
This not only interrupts the show you are watching, but also starts recording what is said after the command. So if you’re having a private conversation and Alexa comes on, it’s you risking your privacy. Placing it on a side table makes more sense and is more likely to keep the voice assistant quiet until you give a command.
5. Never place your Echo in front of a heater
You should never expose your Amazon Echo to heat sources, Amazon says. This includes heaters, heater vents, radiators and stoves. This could potentially cause a fire or cause damage to your Echo device.
Instead, make sure it is placed well away from the direction the heater is pointing to avoid a potential disaster. For example, if you keep a heater in your office, place the Echo on your desk and away from the heater.
