There seems to be no end in sight Collingwood rotten injury news and the club have just revealed that star midfielder Tom Mitchell has undergone surgery.
Mitchell, 31, has not been seen since Round 7 and will now miss at least the next 6-8 weeks.
In a statement, the club revealed that Mitchell had undergone minor surgery on the plantar fascia of his left foot.

It’s another heavy blow for Collingwood, who are already dealing with a long and crippling injury list.
Brody Michocek (hamstring – three weeks), Jamie Elliott (vascular – 6-8 weeks), Mason Cox (knee/concussion – 5-7 weeks), Joe Richards (foot – 3 weeks) and Dan McStay (knee – season ) are also out, as are superstars Jordan De Gowey (groin — three weeks) and Scott Pendlebury (biceps — three weeks).
Will Hoskin-Elliott (hamstring) and young key forward Reif McInnes (concussion) were also sidelined but could return against Melbourne for the King’s birthday game.
“Tom has had a minor procedure to deal with the plantar fasciitis he’s been managing,” Collingwood’s high performance team boss Jarrod Wade said.
“After further consultation, surgery was the best option to help Tom regain full function of his leg.
“Tom will have a period of rest and recovery following the operation before starting a return-to-play program where we expect to see him back in action at the end of the season.”
The club said it would provide an update on Mitchell’s return to action in the coming weeks.
During the week, Collingwood captain Darcy Moore spoke about the injury crisis and said the club had “plenty of options” to cover some holes on the field.
“We’ve tried some guys in different roles in the outfield over the last couple of weeks and always with a bit of change there are some issues,” he said.
“But by the same token, it’s exciting for our fans to get a new look at the team.
“I’m sure we’ll try something new on Monday.”
That could include recalling versatile tall Nathan Kruger, who booted three goals in the VFL last week.
Kreuger has not played at senior level since Round 7 last year and has managed just seven games since joining the Geelong Magpies in late 2022.
“He obviously had some injury concerns earlier in the season, but he’s been back on the field the last couple of weeks and he really took advantage of the weekend,” Moore said.
“We have some personnel, some key forwards and high personnel in front of the ball, so there are definitely opportunities there.
“It’s something we’ll certainly look at bringing in someone like him.”
The squads for Monday’s King’s Birthday clash at the MCG will be released at 6.20pm AEST on Sunday.
