Aussie Olympian Maddison Levi teases ‘super enticing’ career switch

Playmaker Maddison Levy has allayed fears of a mass exodus from Australia’s sevens program after signing up for the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Superstar captain Charlotte Caslick this week revealed her plans to try to move from the fast-paced Sevens format to the 15-a-side game after Paris Olympics in a bid to play in the World Cup in England next year.

Now Levy, 22, “definitely” wants to follow suit.

“Anything to help grow rugby in Australia,” Levy told AAP.

“And being a dual international is something that’s super attractive not only to Charlotte and I, but I think to a lot of us on the team.

“So with the World Cup next year as well, it would be great to help out the Wallaroos girls and go over there and have a go at cross-coding.”

Levi Teagan’s younger sister is also showing interest.

“Like Maddy said, the World Cup could be on our books,” said the 20-year-old.

“We’re not closing that door, but right now the Olympics is our main thing. But hopefully after that we can come through and help the Wallaroos a bit.

Maddison Levy broke Australia’s try-scoring record by leading the women’s sevens team to this year’s World Series title and would be a welcome addition to a Wallaroos side that lost all three tests in the Pacific Four tournament against New Zealand, Canada and USA.

But the powerful winger insists Rugby Australia will allow himself, Caslick and anyone else looking to chase their World Cup dream to juggle both disciplines.

“The beauty of this program is that the coaches and staff can work together and help each other,” Madison said.

“So if some of us go and play in the World Cup, we’re definitely not going to close the door on the sevens.

“So we’ll continue to play sevens next year and obviously, being so young, we’ve still got a few Olympics in us, so hopefully we can make it to L.A. (in 2028).”

Maddison, the fastest Australian to score 100 World Series tries, has already proven her athletic versatility after starting her professional AFLW career with the Gold Coast Suns.
